Back to school to give new lease of life

We’ve recently completed work on an eight-phase project at Shipston High School in Warwickshire which forms part of a major redevelopment plan to give the 1980s school buildings a new lease of life.

The project marks a return to Shipston following enabling works and provision of a new server room and IT suite in 2023.

On this latest project, procured under the Pagabo medium works framework, Ashe has targeted classrooms to update, due to their availability and accessibility while the school has remained operational.

Six new labs have been created, complete with new worktops, integrated Bunsen burners, fume cupboard and gas shut off valve, to provide improved science teaching facilities at the school, with other subject areas also having a refresh.

Contracts manager Ben Wandless explains that the work has uplifted many outdated spaces and brought them in line with current standards.

“The transformation in many of the rooms has been amazing. We’ve included high specification mechanical and ventilation systems to make the rooms more efficient and enhanced spaces used for teaching design and technology, woodwork and graphics, and created a new resistant materials workshop. Students learning about textiles and food tech will also benefit from new facilities.

“The rooms have new equipment and machinery, and they are all fresh and bright learning spaces to upgrade the learning experience for all of the pupils.”

A new electrical hub has been created to house a substation and switch gear in preparation for a new school hall, planned for construction later in the year.

The project continues our relationship with the school having already worked there back in 2017 when we created a new teaching block with nine classrooms and associated works as part of a £2m contract.
